The Future of GIC Idaho County Airport
With initiatives to stimulate economic development for the region of Central Idaho, the Idaho County Airport Development Authority has been put to the task of creating desirable conditions to encourage private and public sector business opportunities through an airport expansion. The entire airport initiative has a 3 year window of federally funded support through programs that expire in 2012, coinciding with $500,000 total per year in Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) and Secure Rural Schools Act. In 2012, the success of the project will be measured on whether or not the airport facility has become self-sustaining through usage, tenants and onsite commerce activity.
In order to make the goals of the Idaho County Commission and Airport Development Authority a sustainable reality, new foundations must be laid not only to increase the numbers of aviation enthusiasts, private and commercial pilots who want to use the airport facility, but also to nurture the potential for new aviation type businesses that will create new jobs for people who we hope will call Idaho County their home. More jobs, bring more families, more economic stimulus, new business opportunities, higher school enrollments, better federal funding for the area and overall, a healthier local economy.
It is the hope of A.D.A. that improving and expanding the airport facilities and generating a healthy environment for aviation industry activities will ultimately fuel economic recovery of the region.
