History of Idaho County Airport
A Historical Look at Idaho County Airport
When did the airport begin its operation?
The Idaho County Commissioners posted in minutes of a meeting held May 20, 1941 that agreement was made for the operation of a county airport. Here is what the minutes state:
The County Commissioners for Idaho County here entered into a cooperative agreement and executed the same, said agreement being now on file with the Clerk of the Board, for the purpose of constructing and maintaining a County Airport to be constructed on the described land that contained approximately 160 Acres. Appraisers Dale Eimers, Walter Rape and J.E. Graham reported their findings and returned to the County Commissioners a set appraised value on the said land of $13,600.00
Further in the minutes, it was stated “In the matter of the County Airport, it appears to the Board that it will be convenient and necessary to appoint a committee whose duties and power would be to have general supervision over the maintenance and regulation of the port and to work at all times to further the interest of such airport“. Appointed to the airport committee was “Jake Eimers, Chairman, and Pearl Dye, A. N. Dyer, Harry Owen, Roy Phillips and Al Wagner” (deceased) as members.
“And it is further ordered that any consideration or act, to be performed by such committee in the interests of the airport, shall first get the approval of the Board of County Commissioners, before consummating any act proposed, wherein there shall be any financial obligation or material change in the matter”.
On September 9, 1941, the commissioners session reported the County Budget and levies made in conjunction with various property taxes established in the county. The airport levy was included in this examination of taxable property equalling 15 cents on each $100.00 in valuation of the county.
